Questa grotta si trova vicino a Trieste e merita assolutamente una visita! E’ uno di quei posti di quella bellezza da vivere poichè impossibile da rendere con parole o immagini …
Noi ci siamo andati dopo il rientro dalla Croazia, ci siamo fermati apposta dopo averla scoperta online ed essendo di strada era quasi d’obbligo una tappa! Semplicemente spettacolare !
Per le sue eccezionali dimensioni la Grotta Gigante è stata inserita nel 1995 nel Guinness dei Primati come “grotta turistica contenete la sala più grande al mondo”.

GRANDE CAVERNA
I primi cinquecento gradini conducono alla “Grande Caverna“, che si apre a una profondità di 80 metri.
Si tratta di un’enorme sala unica, resa spettacolare dalle dimensioni eccezionali.

Il punto più profondo raggiunto dal percorso turistico si trova a 101,10 metri di profondità rispetto all’ingresso.
Il sentiero si addentra tra migliaia di formazioni calcaree, mentre la guida introduce il visitatore alla conoscenza del mondo sotterraneo, svelando i segreti della formazione delle cavità carsiche, della loro evoluzione ed illustrando le caratteristiche dei principali speleotemi (stalattiti, stalagmiti, colonne…).

La risalita comincia percorrendo il sentiero “Carlo Finocchiaro“, una scalinata panoramica che offre uno spettacolare colpo d’occhio sull’intera cavità.
Si prosegue, quindi, attraversando un tunnel artificiale scavato nella roccia, che conduce i visitatori al Belvedere, suggestiva terrazza interna alla grotta da cui potersi affacciare a 95 metri di altezza sulla Grande Caverna.
